Course Description - Fundamentals of UNIX and Linux

Two days

The UNIX operating system has been the workhorse of corporate IT for many years. Now that free open-source versions such as Linux are available, it is being used in smaller businesses and at home. The course introduces UNIX and gets participants to investigate its features through practical exercises.

All flavours of UNIX, Solaris, AIX, Linux etc, share a core set of common commands. The course concentrates on this core, so it is applicable to all flavours. Apart from the commands, we describe the powerful UNIX file system which is key to security.

Prerequisites

Complete beginners to UNIX and Linux should read the material in our free starter pack before the course. This contains our Beginner's Guide to UNIX and Linux. If you have access to a UNIX or Linux system, you should also download and run the CBT software in the starter pack. This introduces the basic commands.
